Abstract. The authors consider author death idea evolution, beginning with the theory of W. von Humboldt. If initially the main opposition in philosophy was the opposition of consciousness and matter (subject and object), after Humboldt the third component - language - was introduced into the classical dichotomy thinking - reality. Today the main opposition is the opposition of author and interpreter (thinking) to text (language) or even interpreter - text. The center of gravity in philosophical researches moves from the world as such to text that is self-sufficient and endowed with substantiality.
