Abstract. The author analyzes the architectural dominants features of Gulf of Finland coastal fortifications and their significance in composition and space, reveals some theoretical aspects of the notion architectural dominant, presents architectural dominants classification and formulates the main directions characterizing the conditioning of dominant coastal fortifications objects formation.
