ATHENIAN MARITIME ALLIANCE DISINTEGRATION: THE PROBLEM OF RELATIONS WITH ALLIES (413-410 BC)

Abstract. The author studies the problem of Athens and its allies' relations during Dekeleia war. Weakened by the defeat in Sicily in 413 BC Athens could not prevent their maritime power collapse. The allies dissatisfied with the hegemon severe government and constant Foros (tax) increase rebelled against Athens and came over to Sparta. The result of these events was Athenian maritime alliance disintegration.
