Abstract. The author applies comparative method to extract ethnological information from literary text, by the materials of the famous Russian writer N. S. Leskov's works conducts the research of the Russian culture at the end of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth century, in particular, food, clothing and shelter, analyzes object being in culture and its function reflection in the consciousness of traditional culture bearers and presents the comparative analysis of literary text and ethnological source.
