Abstract. The author analyzes journalism role in the course of democratic transformations in Russia at the end of the XXth - the beginning of the XXIst centuries, considers the political, legal and economic aspects of journalism participation in the stages of democratic transit and emphasizes mass-media role in the formation of civil culture of democratic society.
