IMAGE OF RUSSIA: FROM WESTERNISM TO SLAVOPHILISM (BY K. D. KAVELIN'S LETTERS)

Abstract. The author undertakes the attempt to show that in the Russian philosophy of the XIXth century there was the ideological evolution from one direction of thought to another and the searches of certain ideological compromises between them except the extremes of Westernism and Slavophilism. The author traces K. D. Kavelin's world-view transformation to the more realistic and multi-aspect estimation of the cultural experience of Western Europe in its correlation with the Russian reality of post-reform period by his letters.
