Abstract. The article reveals the meaning of secular and church communities' social service in Ural during the pre-revolutionary military period, in particular, at the end of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth centuries. The author concludes that the active position of public forces and pastoral address, material support played an important role in overcoming heavy calamities of war in the Ural region.
