Abstract. The author of the article suggests scientific community discussing the opportunities of the offered methodology of studying the quality of life of disabled and elderly people in the institutions of social service. In the article the basic directions of the analysis are singled out, their detailed content is revealed, concrete examples from the practice of public charity of disabled and elderly people in Siberia in the second half of the XIXth - at the beginning of the XXth centuries are considered.
