Abstract. The article is devoted to the description of the period in the history of cinematograph (the end of the 50s - the beginning of the 60s), connected with the search of the new means of expressing "memory space" on the screen by the example of the French producer Alain Resnais's creativity. Two of his works - "Hiroshima, my love" and "Last year in Marienbad" - are analyzed in this article.
