Abstract. In the article the range of the most important written sources of the East and also the views of philosophers and new time Russia literary men which allow considering death problem as human culture phenomenon through thanatology prism are designated on the basis of retrospective approach. The presented materials allow the reader tracing the evolutionary line of attitude to death in different cultural-chronological periods of humanity history.
