Abstract. The article shows the content of the notion of literacy and educational level of city population of Ciscaucasia in 1945-1959 by the example of Krasnodar and Stavropol regions. The author pays the main attention to the changes in the education sphere during the post war period and to the influence of these reforms on every day life of city population.
