Abstract. This present study is an attempt to partake in the ever-evolving scholarly activities on the origins of, and the challenges confronting one of the protagonists of the Cold War - the Russian Federation. The study adopts the historical approach. This involves exploring, examining and relating historical events, processes and their relevance in the ongoing discuss on the impact of the Cold War years. Relevant data, especially on the Cold War, bi-polar world and Russia's participation are sourced from bibliographic and archival materials, as well as from credible internet sources.
