Abstract. At the beginning of the XXthcentury the average amount of students increased at Don schools. Their social problems and impaired national rights stimulated opposition spirits. That is why in the 1901-1902s the self-education circles appeared. Many of them gradually became political ones under the influence of the first labour movement, students' rallies and socialism tendencies.
