Means of actualizing communicative demonstrativeness in business discourse

Abstract. The aim of the study is to detect the ways of expressing demonstrative tonality in business discourse. The work is novel in that it is the first to describe the discursive specificity of demonstrativeness in the speech of a business person. As a result of the study, it has been found that demonstrativeness is a tonality that defines the process of speech interaction, which implements the functions of self-presentation and influencing the emotions and feelings of the addressee in its accentuated and non-accentuated forms. Explicit communicative demonstrativeness in business discourse is realized by positive adjectival and adverbial epithets in positive and superlative degrees of comparison and hyperbolic form, expressive phraseological units, bookish speech patterns, foreign-language terms – industry words, constatives with positive connotation, antithesis, hyperbole, speech tactics of self-aggrandizement, hyperbolic metaphor, and introductory intensifiers. Implicit communicative demonstrativeness in the communication of a business person is expressed by semiotic complexes of non-verbal means, such as clothing style and manner of communication.
