Methodological principles for selecting foreign language media texts as a supplementary learning tool at language faculties

Abstract. The study aims to identify the principles for selecting media texts as a supplementary learning tool in the context of foreign language education at language faculties. Despite the lack of a unified set of principles for selecting media texts suitable for foreign language education, the study was able to identify a list of optimal recommendations for selecting mass media texts applicable within the foreign language education system at language faculties. The scientific novelty of the work lies in presenting a tested methodological plan for implementing the educational process using media texts as a supplementary learning tool, selected according to the recommendations identified in the study. The results of this study prove that taking into account a number of media text selection principles can contribute to a more effective and purposeful organization of the educational process, provided that the media text is used as a supplementary learning material and its theme correlates with the curriculum.
