Abstract. The article examines the creative legacy of the Udmurt front-line soldier and writer Philip Grigoryevich Kedrov (1909-1944), an iconic figure in the national literature of the pre-war and war years. The main attention is paid to the themes of his prose and poetic works, which are closely related to the everyday problems of folk life and imbued with a sense of humanity. The issues of reflecting the value and semantic orientations of the author in the artistic and aesthetic aspect are studied. The purpose of the study is to identify the evolution of artistic and visual means and issues in the creative work of Kedrov. The scientific novelty of the work consists in a holistic understanding of Kedrov’s literary heritage according to the genre modifications of his prose and poetic works. For the first time, the role of the writer in enriching national literature with more complex techniques of artistic reflection of man and the world in dramatic periods for national history is revealed. As a result, it was established that the work of F. Kedrov was a link in the history of Udmurt literature between its pre-war and military stages. His works expressed the general trends of transformation of aesthetic images and ideals of society.
