Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of the discourse of the urban text of the literature of the eastern frontier of the second half of the 19th century. The aim of the research is to identify constant and variable semantic and compositional schemes in the artistic narrative of travelogues of the second half of the 19th century, dedicated to the Far East, representing the urban space and forming the basis of the “urban” Far Eastern local text. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the identification of recurrent plots and motives, the semantics of which is associated with the “urban myth” of the eastern frontier, as well as in the identification of general patterns of creating a geopoetic image of the Far Eastern city in travelogues dedicated to the Far East. The article analyzes the specifics of the artistic representation of the images of the Far Eastern cities, and distinguishes constant elements of the artistic code of the representation of the urban space. The results obtained allow us to consider the topos of the Far Eastern outpost city as a semantic dominant of the urban text of the literature of the eastern frontier.
