Transhumanism in the European literature of the 19th century: Dostoyevsky and Balzac

Abstract. The aim of this research is to offer a short essay on transhumanist worldview in the works of European writers, to determine the system prerequisites of such transhumanist worldview and to show the relevance of the approach for understanding the current concepts of human nature through the prism of literature. The scientific novelty lies in: 1) contextualizing the works of F. M. Dostoyevsky and other European authors of the 19th century within the transhumanist thought; 2) demonstrating different types of transhumanist worldview and their relevance for the current cultural situation. As a result, the essay presents the different ways of overcoming human nature as the main purpose of a human being and demonstrates the relevance of considering these views embodied in literary texts for understanding the dynamics of philosophical and religious anthropology development in various European cultures.
