The category of comparison as an object of linguistic research: A theoretical and analytical review

Abstract. The aim of the study is to carry out a theoretical and analytical review of modern academic works on the category of comparison in Russian and foreign linguistics in the 21st century. The material of the paper is of topical nature and demonstrates contradictory views on the development of scientific knowledge about the category of comparison. The scientific novelty of the study lies in presenting the results of the research on the topical issues of the category of comparison in Russian and foreign linguistics in the 21st century. The results of the review and analysis of the academic works devoted to the category of comparison make it possible to confirm the relevance and novelty of investigating the category of comparison in modern English, in addition, the findings represent a necessary basis for conducting a comprehensive description of the linguistic phenomenon under consideration and also allow researchers to supplement scientific knowledge about the problems of the functional-semantic category of comparison in modern English.
