Semantic Content Transformation in the Cartoon “9” When Translating from English into Russian

Abstract. The aim of the study is to show that by transforming the semantic content of an audiovisual work, a translator can fill it with new meanings making it no less successful than the original one. The article discusses the actual notion of audiovisual translation and the meaning of dynamic equivalence. A comparison of the original script and the text of the duplicated translation is given. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the transformations of the semantic content are revealed when comparing the full texts of the original and the translation of the cartoon “9”. The obtained results have shown that translation adaptation can fill a film with new meanings and make it more understandable to the audience.
