Abstract. The aim of the study is to discover the influence of the Oriental Tao universal on the earlier poetic work of O. E. Mandelstam. The poetic works of 1908-1909 were chosen as the material for the analysis. The implicitly expressed Tao universal is considered as influencing the content and poetological features of the texts. The scientific novelty of the study is connected with the appeal to the Oriental universals, which, unlike the European ones, did not stand out as significant in Mandelstam’s mythopoetic world view. The main results of the research are the actualization of the influence of the main features inherent in the Tao universal on the artistic world of the poet’s poems of the early period, as well as the clarification of the specifics of the lyrical hero’s image.
