Morpheme "-ing" as One of the Most Widely Used Means of Word Formation in the Indian Variety of the English Language at the Differentiation Stage of English in India

Abstract. The aim of the study is to consider one of the morphemic-morphological features of the formation of the Indian variety of English and to identify the range of the word-forming morpheme "-ing" usage in Indian English (IE). The article presents the texts analysis results of the English-language periodicals and the works of significant Indian English writers in order to identify the cases of the word-formation morpheme "-ing" usage and prevalence of its use by the authors. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that for the first time: one of the features of the morphemic-morphological system of the Indian variety of English is considered; artworks of the English-language literature of India, which had significantly influenced the formation of Indian English, were analyzed; it became possible to arrange and update one of the morphemic-morphological features of IE. The results obtained showed that at the differentiation stage of English in India, the method of word formation by means of the bound morpheme "-ing" is one of the most widely used in the Indian variety of the English language.
