Media Image as a Set of Ideologemes (by the Example of the Media Image of Viktor Yanukovych Represented in the English-Language Mass Media)

Abstract. The purpose of the study is to reconstruct the media image "Viktor Yanukovych" created by linguistic means in the English-language mass media texts by identifying its constituent ideologemes. The work is novel in that it the first to single out a set of ideologemes that form the media image of the Ukrainian politician in the press of Great Britain and the United States during the information confrontation. As a result of the study, it has been found that during an information confrontation, mass media act as communicators of political views, which are represented in texts through ideologemes carrying an evaluative connotation in order to have an impact on the addressee. Tropes and figures of speech contributed to the creation of a negative image of Viktor Yanukovych in the English-language press, which consists of four ideologemes: "a politician who did not meet the expectations of Ukrainians", "a weak politician lacking independence", "a politician who thinks only about personal gain", "a cruel tyrant".
