Abstract. The aim of this paper is to examine the image of the main character in Margaret Mitchell’s "Gone with the Wind" through the lens of parent-child relationship. The article explores the "child-adult" dichotomy on textual and biographical levels. The novelty of this study is represented by the close reading of Scarlett O’Hara’s "adult baby" personality. The results demonstrate distinctive features of her personal infantilism, which caused ambivalence towards family and marriage, sociocultural norms and gender identity.
