Abstract. The purpose of the research is to determine features of terminological synonymy in ecology vocabulary. The article examines synonymy of terms in the Russian and English-language terminology of ecology, which emerges as a result of the existing inconsistencies in the national worldview of the Americans and Britons. Primary focus is on identification of common and specific characteristics in the structure of synonymic relations as a part of two terminologies in different languages. Scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that it conducts an analysis from the standpoint of a new direction: the article undertakes an anthropocentric study of synonymous terms based on identification of cognitive differences in the worldview of representatives of two nations. As a result, it is determined that, despite the existing inconsistencies in synonymy development in the Russian and English terminology, the modern vocabulary of ecology is marked by the presence of common characteristics shared by both the Russian and English-language terminology of this knowledge area.
