Functioning of the Lexeme ‘Зима’ ("Winter") in the Context of Aesthetic Resources of Language Units

Abstract. The purpose of the research is to describe the figurative potential of the lexeme ‘зима’ ("winter"). Scientific novelty of the work amounts to the results of studying the functioning of this lexeme in creating the imagery of the texts of poetical works. The semantics of the lexeme ‘зима’ is analysed on the basis of lexicographic sources. The imagery of this word is examined through the lens of the methodology for studying figurative paradigms. As a result, the paradigms in which the temporal lexeme acts as an object and image of comparison are identified. There are five models in which the word ‘зима’ in the position of the left component becomes similar to the nouns related to the notions "living object", "mental", "existential", "element", "fabric". There are four models in which the analysed lexeme acts as a right component. There are three reversible paradigms that characterise figurative associations with the word according to their fixedness.
