Means for Expressing Verbal Aggression in the English Football Fans’ Discourse (by the Material of Dougie Brimson’s Books)

Abstract. The article aims to identify means for building expressive and aggressive forms of football fans’ communication on the basis of a communicative and pragmatic analysis of Dougie Brimson’s texts. Sociocultural aspects of verbal aggression are determined from the standpoint of ethology and psychology, which also allows the researcher to classify sociocultural characteristics of support culture. Scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that means for explicit and implicit verbal aggression in the English football fans’ discourse are described for the first time. The results of the study suggest that communicative repertoire of this subculture is mainly represented by lexical means for exercising verbal aggression.
