Mahammad Fuzuli’s Role in Ghazal Traditional Genre Formation in the Azerbaijani Literature

Abstract. The research objectives are as follows: to reveal the Azerbaijani poet Mahammad Fuzuli’s role in the ghazal canonical genre formation in the Azerbaijani poetry, to provide a comparative-contrastive analysis of Fuzuli’s and his predecessors’ poems. The article considers the following issues: ethno-genesis of the Azerbaijani amorous lyrics, its interrelation with the Arabic and Persian poetry, causes for the ghazal genre popularity in the Azerbaijani poetry. The research methodology includes literary critical methods, comparative analysis methods. Scientific originality of the study involves identifying specificity of Fuzuli’s creative manner. As a result, the researcher concludes that Fuzuli’s poems contributed to further development of the ghazal genre in the Azerbaijani poetry.
