Loneliness Motif in Sh. Khusainov’s Tragicomedy "Zubaida Is a Child of Man"

Abstract. The study aims to provide insight into how the loneliness motif is manifested in Sharif Khusainov’s tragicomedy. The notion of the loneliness motif is defined and the role that it plays in the ideological and aesthetic content of the play is revealed. Special attention is paid to the image of the main character Zubaida, in which the motif is most pronounced. The paper is novel in that it is the first to interpret the loneliness motif in Sh. Khusainov’s tragicomedy "Zubaida is a Child of Man" in the course of exploring the protagonist’s image and elaborating on the main idea of the work. As a result of the study, the researcher has determined that firstly, the loneliness motif is used to develop the protagonist’s character, contrasting her image with everyone around her, in the tragicomedy; secondly, the heroine’s loneliness is manifested in the play through other motifs - playing, crying, childhood memories; thirdly, the loneliness motif is used as an indicator of interpersonal issues both in the relationships within the family and between relatives and in self-actualisation, friendship and love.
