Punch as a Linguocultural Character Type in British Culture

Abstract. The aim of the study is to identify the conceptual, figurative and value dominants of the linguocultural character type Punch (Petrushka) in the English-language discourse. The scientific originality lies in the fact that for the first time the significance of the Punch character type (Petrushka) for the British linguistic culture was revealed, the seme composition (content) was determined, the connections of the studied character type were clarified, the signs of figurative and value characteristics were established. As a result, the linguocultural character type is considered as professional, the socio-historical prerequisites for the emergence of the character type are revealed, the external appearance and sphere of activity, the dynamics of value characteristics, the features of speech behaviour of the specified character type are described, the precedence, associativity, recurrence and symbolism of the linguocultural character type Punch (Petrushka) are noted.
