Wolf’s Lot: Theme of Abrekhood in the Ossetian Literature of the End of the XIX - the Beginning of the XX Century

Abstract. The article examines the theme of abrekhood in the Ossetian literature of the end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX century by the material of poetry, prose and dramaturgy (K. L. Khetagurov, A. I. Tokaev, E. Ts. Britaev, A. T. Tsalikov and D. A. Gatuev). The research objectives are as follows: to show how abrekhood is represented in works of the mentioned authors, to reveal specificity of their interpretations of the abrek’s (robber, outcast) image taking into account aesthetics of a certain literary trend. Scientific originality of the study is conditioned by the fact that the abrekhood phenomenon is for the first time subjected to a comprehensive literary analysis. The conducted research allows identifying peculiarities of the image of an abrek who is depicted as a legendary robber causing admiration and respect of mountaineers; as a marginal criminal, outcast who deserves only condemnation; as an unfortunate sufferer, cornered animal, who deserves sympathy.
