Combinatorial-Semantic Analysis of the English and Russian Collocations with the Component "Red"

Abstract. The research is conducted within the framework of combinatorial lexicology, which studies syntagmatic relations of lexical units and their combinatorial potential. The objective includes identifying combinatorial-syntagmatic and functional-semantic mechanisms of a collocation formation. Scientific originality of the paper includes development and approbation of an algorithm for a comprehensive combinatorial-semantic analysis of different types of collocations in different languages. The findings indicate that colourative collocations differ in the level of semantic integrity of their components, which is conditioned by formative peculiarities; types of motivation of the Russian colourative collocations in comparison with the English ones are also identified.
