Concepts of Heaven and Their Representation in the German Medieval Literature

Abstract. The research aims to describe linguistic realisation of various concepts of heaven present in the culture of the European medieval period using written monuments of the German medieval literature. Scientific novelty of the study lies in employing the interdisciplinary approach to defining the notion of heaven as a cultural phenomenon of the epoch taking into account data of linguistics (cognitive linguistics in particular), literary criticism, culturology, history, religious studies. As a result of the research, certain trends in linguistic representation of the God’s Kingdom developed in the German medieval literature under the influence of religion are identified.
