Abstract. The paper aims to reveal specificity of verbal influence in the English political discourse. Stylistic expressive means are analysed by the example of the public speech delivered by the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the UN General Assembly session. Novelty of the study lies in the fact that the means of speech influence in this type of discourse and Boris Johnson’s linguistic personality are still insufficiently investigated. The findings indicate that the political leader uses a wide range of lexico-syntactical stylistic devices and expressive means to influence the audience, to promote his country’s interests, thus continuing the English oratory traditions.
