Abstract. The article deals with a comparative analysis of William Golding’s works of various years representing the historicised narrative. The study aims to identify peculiarities of the English prose-writer’s historiosophical views within the pre-existing tradition of interpreting the past. The study is novel in that it works out the issue of typological similarity between the writer’s historicized novels and novellas. The results show that Golding’s conceptual idea of history was influenced by advances in anthropology of the XX century that is why he considered invariability of human nature to be the basis of history’s unity. Golding counterposed viewing the past through the lens of individual consciousness and mythological models against educational and romanticist historiosophy.
