Abstract. The article examines the problem of translating Spanish realia. The study aims to consider and analyse ways of translating Spanish culture-specific vocabulary pertinent to the "corrida" theme basing on the analysis of Vicente Blasco Ib??ez’s novel "Blood and Sand" and its translation. It was found that difficulties arising in the process of realia translation are accounted for, on the one hand, by lack of an appropriate equivalent or analogue and, on the other hand, by necessity of conveying a denotative (semantic) meaning with consideration to a connotative meaning (national and historical colouring). Having analysed the novel’s translation, the author found that the main methods employed by translators in the case of realia translation are transcription, descriptive translation and loose translation.
