Verbal Aggressiveness as Language Phenomenon Hindering Learning Process

Abstract. The article examines characteristics of verbal aggressiveness in the setting of daily ‘teacher - student’ communication. For the first time the illustrative material is presented by the utterances produced by teachers in the classroom. The purpose of the paper is to analyse the impact a teacher’s verbal aggressiveness has on the process of a student’s knowledge assimilation. The carried out research specifies the means of expressing active and passive aggressiveness, in both cases direct and indirect. The results showed that this phenomenon has a negative impact on the process of students’ knowledge acquisition and introduces a destructive element into educational process.
