Abstract. The paper aims to describe productive models of face-threatening speech acts in split-level academic communication. The authors analyse speech acts with different levels of threats to a speaker’s positive face: invitation, request (with different degrees of imposition) and proposal. Special attention is paid to analysing the speech act "advice" functioning in institutional communication. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researchers analyse the use of face-threatening speech acts in split-level academic communication within the framework of the discursive approach. The research findings are as follows: the basic pragmatic characteristics of speech acts under study are identified.
Key words and phrases: ликоугрожающий речевой акт, институциональное общение, академический дискурс, разностатусное общение, face-threatening speech act, institutional communication, academic discourse, split-level communication
