Techniques to Translate the Explicative Construction ‘as in’ from English into Russian

Abstract. The article reveals specificity of translating the new explicative construction ‘as in’ from English into Russian. The research objective includes identifying general tendencies in the choice of translation equivalents. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the author for the first time identifies and classifies techniques to translate ‘as in’ construction taking into account its functional peculiarities. The conducted research allows concluding that ‘as in’ most frequently performs the verifying function. Translation transformations are required when ‘as in’ performs the identifying function (speakers try to clarify their remarks) or the expressive function (speakers express their attitudes on the issue).
