Abstract. The paper aims to identify specificity of motive-figurative representation of past and present in stories from the collection "Bulchut" by N. R. Kalitin. Scientific originality of the study is conditioned by the fact that the motive-figurative structure of N. R. Kalitin’s stories has not been previously investigated in this aspect. The article considers the opposition "present - past" realized through recurrent images and motives. The researchers identify and analyse meaning-generative images of the material world, develop a typology of the main personages, reveal their role and functional load. The findings indicate that the choice of objective-figurative and motive complexes is conditioned by the author’s intention to emphasize urgent problems of the modernity: generation gap, loss of national and cultural identity.
