Research Paper Abstract in English and Russian: Comparative Analysis and Translation Problems

Abstract. The paper aims at studying logical and semantic constituents of a research paper abstract in English and Russian. The conducted research makes it possible to compare some universal structural components and their verbal representation in English and Russian. The novelty of the present research lies in the complex analysis of structural, semantic and verbal characteristics of the abstracts presenting research papers on closely related subjects in the English and Russian scientific discourse. Consequently, it is evident that the key role in solving the problems of translating abstracts from Russian into English belongs not so much to the purely linguistic phenomena as to the accepted logical principles of presenting information and the initial objectives of the research.
