Specificity of Rethinking the Ancient Greek Myth in Ch. Wolf’s Novella "Kassandra" and "Cassandra’s Path" by J. Voznesenskaya

Abstract. The article aims to analyse interpretation of mythological images in works of the German classical writer of the XX century Christa Wolf and the contemporary Russian prose-writer J. Voznesenskaya. Scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that it is the first to conduct a comparative-contrastive analysis of works based on the same mythological plot but belonging to different cultural texts and interpreting the Cassandra plot in different ways. The attained results have shown that while the myth of Cassandra is interpreted in Ch. Wolf’s novella in connection with consideration of the past and the future, fate of the mankind, J. Voznesenskaya’s novel projects the mythological plot onto the modern 2000s in Russia, the myth becomes a means of comprehending a man’s moral values. Mythological realia "highlight" typical vices of the modern age: infantilism, pride, egoism, a person’s attempts to hide from themselves in the virtual world.
