Mirroring as a Category of Poetics in the Novel "Gryll Grange" by Thomas Love Peacock

Abstract. The article analyses mirroring as a category of poetics in the novel "Gryll Grange" (1861) by Thomas Love Peacock (1785-1866). It is shown that this category represents the author’s individual perception of classical ancient and medieval heritage. The research objective includes identifying manifestations of the mirroring category in T. L. Peacock’s novel. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the mirroring category is considered through the prism of the novel poetics. The findings indicate that in the novel "Gryll Grange", the mirroring category is realized through the system of epigraphs, the author’s digressions, by means of the intertextuality ("text in text") technique.
