Abstract. The article considers the problem of understanding dualistic ethical categories in the process of reflection. The author aims to identify the correlation between understanding an ethical category and the ability to interpret dualistic conceptions objectified in the meaningful structure of a text. The paper for the first time analyzes the interrelation between the level of awareness of an ethical category and interpretation of identical and opposite conceptions, which allows broadening emotional intellect. The experiment results were analyzed according to gender and showed sufficient correlation of an ethical category and the ability to interpret the identical conception objectified in a text but insufficient ability to interpret implicit dualistic categories, which resulted in reducing a potential for emotional intellect development.
