Abstract. The article considers the image of the eternal city of Constantinople/Istanbul in Z?lf? Livaneli’s novel "Constantinople Hotel". This image is formed in an unusual vertical chronotope complicated with the elements of phantasmagoria and carnivalization and with a specific form of narration based on endless succession of the personages’ stories. The paper argues that the position of the narrator, who often manifests himself through the pronouns "we" and "I", is clear and definite and is reduced to ethical problematic. The importance of personages is estimated according to their understanding of temporality of earthly existence and eternity of mortal darkness.
