Abstract. The article analyses the structural peculiarities of topical structures by the material of the modern Chinese and classical Chinese languages. The paper shows that in the mentioned languages, topicalization process is based on the model when a subject and/or predicate is expressed by a predicative word combination or by its reduced form, which leads to semantic discrepancy between sentence fragments corresponding to the topic and commentary. The authors suggest their own classification and consider prospects for further research in this area.
