Abstract. The article deals with the creative image of a poet of the transitional era of the late XIX - early XX century. The author traces the worldview complex of I. F. Annensky’s ideas set out in mythopoetic creativity. The paper identifies the artist’s aesthetic and philosophical viewpoints typical of the turn-of-the-century era of the Silver Age rooted in the ancient Hellenic tradition. The study presents the traits of the poet’s biographical portrait, who was considered a teacher by many representatives of the Russian modernism. A new point of view on Annensky not only as a poet of the transitional period, but as a poetic chronicler of the spiritual world of the Russian intelligentsia of the late ХIХ - early ХХ century is suggested.
