COLOUR HAS MEANING VS COLOUR DOESN’T HAVE MEANING (SYMBOLISM OF YELLOW COLOUR IN REPRESENTATION OF SOCIAL MOVEMENTS IN EUROPE)

Abstract. Within the framework of pragmatics, the article considers the features of the symbolic interpretation of yellow colour in relation to social protests in Europe of the XIX-XXI centuries by the material of the Russian, English and French languages. The authors illustrate the appearance of new economic terms based on the symbolism of yellow colour. The change of the association focus is shown in the diachronic aspect. The modern understanding of colour symbolism in protest movements, trade union actions and national revolutions is complemented by the analysis of the intersection of colour symbolism with metaphors, neologisms and phraseological units, axiological assessments of the current social movement in Europe.
