ROLE AND DRAMATIC ORIGINALITY OF ARTISTIC CONFLICT IN THE NOVEL "EAT, PRAY, LOVE" BY E. GILBERT

Abstract. The article is devoted to analysing artistic conflict by the material of modern prose. E. Gilbert’s novel "Eat, Pray, Love" served as the research material. The detailed analysis of the novel has allowed identifying multiple conflicts. They are presented within the framework of three oppositions ("Human Being - His Inner Self", "Human Being - Another Human Being" and "Human Being - Society" (norms, values, traditions, customs, laws)) and perform the following functions: firstly, they serve to disclose fully the main heroine’s image; secondly, they contribute to the storyline development; thirdly, they tackle important cultural and ethical problems.
