SUBJECT OF THE ENGLISH AND DUTCH INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES AS A LIMIT OF SYNTACTIC INTERFERENCE

Abstract. The article deals with the formation of a predicate and a subject in interrogative sentences from the binomiality point of view. It is ascertained that when a subject is formed, the main substantive semifinitive is exposed to fixation, first of all, in the super-strong specifier, then in the strong specifier, and, finally, in the weak spatial specifier. Interrogative sentences can be divided into two subtypes, in which the main substantial unit is either known (thus not vacant but able to undergo zeroing) or being searched (thus vacant); the informative value of constructions within each subtype is defined. It is revealed that the Dutch subject, formed by the fixation of the infinitive in the super-strong spatial specifier, deviates from the frame construction, and is sometimes replaced by the subject, which is formed by the fixation of the substantivised infinitive in the weak spatial specifier.
